History

From Basic Resources Inc. to Avkem International

Founded in 1990 as a division of ConAgra, and formerly known as Basic Resources Inc., Avkem International began with a simple goal of providing high quality potash-based chemicals for industrial applications.  Following a management-led buyout in 1992, the company found a unique niche providing performance enhancing chemicals for the metals industry.  Today, Avkem has developed into a leading supplier of process chemicals and associated consumable products to the aluminum industry.  Since its humble beginnings, the company has grown from a single facility company in Eastern Tennessee to a multinational company with seven manufacturing facilities capable of serving North America.
